WHO WE AREKitschy Kitten was founded at the end of 2005 by two Malaysia-based entrepreneurs, one of whom is a young woman who believes in both the sheer witchcraft of one's wardrobe and in feline supremacy.
At present we carry the following merchandise: accessories, clothing, footwear and bags. Our products celebrate the colour, the vibrance, the glorious
kitsch of traditional and culturally-inspired contemporary wear.
Kitschy Kitten operates out of bazaars in Kuala Lumpur.
OUR PHILOSOPHYEvery product we sell is hand-picked and personally sourced, mostly from India.
Because our sourcing is done so meticulously, unlike other retailers, we do not guarantee a constant supply. Neither do we maintain a permanent location (we will begin to accept online orders later this year). The purpose of this blog is to keep our customers updated with regards to when we bring in fresh supplies, as well as when and where we will be selling it.
WHY NEFERKITTY?"At a young age Nefertiti married Akhenaten, the enigmatic ruler of the most powerful kingdom of the Bronze Age world. By the age of thirty Nefertiti had given birth to six daughters and achieved a position of enormous influence as mother-goddess and the living symbol of fertility within the perfect family. Together, she and the king presided over the magnificent Eygptian court of Amrana, acknowleged to be the centre of the civilized world. Then suddenly she disappeared from the official records of the times. Her death and the whereabouts of her body remain a mystery." - From
Nefertiti: Unlocking the Mystery Surrounding Egypt's Most Famous and Beautiful Queen by Joyce Tyldesley
Armed with a name that means "the beautiful one to come", Nefertiti arrested the hearts and minds of the people of antiquity, keeping us captivated even today; a bust of her that is now kept in Berlin's Altes Museum is one of the most iconic and recognizable representations of women in the ancient world. The most recent controversy surrounding her eventual fate emerged in 2003, when archaeologist Joann Fletcher announced that a mummy stored in Tomb KV35 in Egypt's Valley of Kings was, in fact, Nefertiti.
Thousands of years on, she continues to capture our imagination, inspire our admiration, and fuel our curiosity and sense of adventure.
We at Kitschy Kitten cannot get enough of two things:
* Strong, enigmatic women
and
* Cats
So what better mascot than Neferkitty? Besides, Hatshepuss doesn't quite have a ring to it. ;)
